“Prelude to Water Melody” Hard-Pen Calligraphy by Chen Xiran

This hard-pen calligraphy work was created by Chen Xiran from Beijing, China. The piece presents Su Shi’s famous ci-poem “Prelude to Water Melody (Shui Diao Ge Tou)”, written during the Mid-Autumn Festival. In regular script (Kaishu), the writing is steady and elegant, capturing the philosophical tone of the poem, which contemplates the moon, human joy and sorrow, and the eternal passage of time. The poem remains one of the most celebrated works in Chinese literature.
