This handwritten calligraphy work by Li Wei draws from Mi Fu’s “The Poem Scroll of the Tiaoxi River” (苕溪诗帖), capturing a lyrical moment of peaceful seclusion amidst nature. Written in flowing cursive script, the composition is accompanied by a delicately painted court lady, enhancing the romantic and contemplative tone of the scroll.

Li Wei, Cultural Exchange Chairman of Yu JIAN Academy and University of Rochester alumna with dual Master’s degrees in Management and Information Science, is a seasoned calligrapher rooted in classical traditions. She began with Liu-style regular script and later specialized in cursive and running scripts, guided by calligrapher Sun Wenjia. Her works have been widely exhibited in China and abroad.

This piece is an original, unframed handwritten work, showcasing the elegance of classical poetry through brushwork and imagery.

Translation of the poem (Mi Fu, Song Dynasty):
“For half a year, I've dwelt among the tall bamboos, enjoying the beauty of flowers in all seasons.
Lazy to pour the refreshing Huiquan wine, I've finished brewing tea from the Heyuan stream.
The host has many kindred spirits, with peaks surrounding in silence.
Upon waking in the morning to dusty scrolls, I sigh, remembering my old nest.”
