Description:
This unique work integrates traditional Li Script (Clerical Script) calligraphy with poetic translation and ceramic seal carving. Liu Yan excerpts lines from the Book of Poetry (Shijing, Spring and Autumn Period) alongside her own modern English poem, “A Happy Hermit,” creating a cross-cultural dialogue between past and present, East and West.
The seals, carved and impressed onto ceramic, include:
-
A seal based on “The River Wide” — “A reed could reach the other side”
-
“Life as a Play”
-
Phoenix Bird Seal (Imitation)
The combination of rhythmic brushwork and hand-carved ceramic seals embodies a harmony of permanence and personal emotion. The calligraphy is composed with structural precision, while the seals provide symbolic and aesthetic depth.
